10-Min Deodorant Recipe (that doesn’t suck!)

Could your deodorant be hijacking your hormones?

There are 4 reasons that ditching conventional deodorant could have major health benefits! (And no… you won’t stink!)

  1. Conventional deodorants contain a cluster of hormone-disrupting chemicals that are linked to conditions including obesity, diabetes, infertility, cancer, hyperactivity and behavior issues in children. These toxins are highjacking our messaging system (endocrine system) causing us to produce too much/too little of certain hormones… leading to imbalances.

The worst offenders:

  • Propylene glycol

  • Triclosan (or triclocarban)

  • Aluminum

  • Silica

  • Parabens

  • Formaldehyde releasers like quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, diazolidinyl urea, polyoxymethylene urea, sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol (bromopol) and glyoxal

  • Fragrance (can contain any of thousands of chemicals and ingredients are not listed individually)

  • Triethanolamine and diethanolamine (TEA and DEA)

  • Talc (can contain asbestos)

  • Petroleum

  • Isobutane

  • FD & C colors

  1. Because of how close our armpits are to lymph nodes and breast tissue, these chemicals are easily and quickly absorbed.  Most concerning is the link to breast cancer.

  2. Antiperspirant contains Aluminum, which blocks our sweat glands, trapping toxins and hormone-disruptors in our bodies.  Ingredients inside products on the shelves are not independently tested nor are they evaluated by the FDA for safety before they are sold.  In other words, we have to take responsibility for protecting our health!

  3. One of the TOP things we can do to balance hormones and protect our health is limiting our toxic exposure.  My DIY recipe is an easy first step!

I know, I know… “but, Alicia, you don’t understand.  Natural deodorant DOESN’T work for me, I am sooooo sweaty.”

Trust me, I used to use the prescription -jet fuel status- deodorant because I thought I needed it.  Patience is key.  There is an adjustment period.  It could be 2 weeks up to several months.  DON’T. GIVE. UP. Your body has to go through a period of adaptation to new stimulus.  Also, detoxing all of the previously built-up chemicals.  That’s why moving into fall/winter is the perfect time to make the switch!  I switched about 6 years ago, and have never looked back. Trust me… if I don’t stink after two training sessions in one day, there is hope for you!
